The last flight of the San Antonio mileage run was the flight from Houston to Seattle in United Airlines First Class operated by an Airbus A319 with just eight seats in First Class.

I was assigned seat 1A, as this was the last seat available in the First Class cabin since there were just eight seats. The flight actually left from Terminal E, so I had to walk all the way from one of the first gates in Terminal C to E21, which is all the way at the end of Terminal E. I made it just in time for boarding and was among the last people to board via Premier Access Group 1.

I generally don’t like sitting in row 1 since the bulkhead is right in your face and there isn’t any room to store your personal item and therefore I generally avoid row 1 unless there aren’t any other seats available.

The pre-departure beverage that I had was simply water since I’m trying to drink less of ‘non-healthy’ drinks like soda.

We had an on time departure from Houston and made it to the runway a couple of minutes before scheduled departure time. Once we reached our cruising altitude of 38k feet, the lead FA working First Class took lunch orders as well as drink orders. I ordered some Tea with lemon and sugar which was served with warm nuts.

The lunch was fantastic – perhaps the best I’ve ever eaten on United. The soup was tomato basil soup and the salad was chicken salad with cheese, strawberries, and oranges. I ate everything and later felt very satisfied.. everything was just delicious. I’m so glad United upgraded their food options (but even before most of their food was very good!)

The view outside was a bit boring as we were just simply passing above the United States to the Pacific Northwest.

After lunch, lemon sorbet was served and again, it was delicious… even though I do prefer the ice cream, the sorbet was fantastic.

I worked on my laptop for the remainder of the flight and woke up right as we began our initial descend into Seattle.

I could see Seattle Airport from above, which I thought was cool, we landed in the southward direction on runway 16R.

We touched down about twenty minutes ahead of scheduled arrival time and made it to the gate shortly thereafter. I made it home within thirty minutes of landing and with that… my United mileage runs are sadly over.. for this year at least! As for the rest of 2015, I have plenty of award travel booked and I’m excited to share some upcoming trips with you guys which I think will be awesome. After all, I spent a bunch of time flying around the United States… I might as well spend the miles on something nice and luxurious!

  1. Are you sure you were on United?? Clearly atypical experience (i.e. on-time, edible food, no cranky FA, etc.) IMHO

      1. I do have some data points to justify my skepticism. I live at IAD Airport, have 1.5 mm miles on UA. I stopped flying UA in 2012 except for ‘only flight available’ situations. Many of my neighbors are UA pilots. The things they say about the company would curl your hair and they make me genuinely scared to fly with such an unhappy, spiteful group of employees. True, I have had excellent flights on UA but when things go south, they go down hard especially since I’m no longer 1K. (Just a lowly overentitled Gold for Life thanks to MM status.) judging for thee feedback to your post, I’m not the only one who feels that way.

        1. Unfortunately people now feel over entitled to everything and always seem to complain at the slightest details.
