Perhaps they should buy more aircraft before they announce new routes, no? Because they’re currently leasing a bunch of aircraft as they don’t have enough Dreamliners to fly their long-hauls (and some 787s are still out for repair). LOT Polish Airlines has announced their plans to fly to San Francisco as of 05 August 2020 from their hub in Warsaw.
LOT’s current hubs include Warsaw and Budapest, though there is a rumour going around that Kraków will be transformed into a hub due to the number of flights LOT operates from the southern Polish city. The new San Francisco route will be operated 4 times a week with a Boeing 787 featuring Business Class, Premium Economy Class, and Economy Class. The flight features the following schedule:
WAW – SFO 11:35/17:20 – 14:30/20:15
SFO – WAW 16:25/22:10 – 13:00+1/18:45+1
San Francisco is United’s Star Alliance hub, therefore lots of connections are possible on both ends of this route (with LOT serving many Eastern European cities). LOT features Business Class in a 2-2-2 configuration on their long-haul aircraft. However, LOT’s Premium Economy is really the best product they offer – the seat is fantastic and the catering is basically from Business Class. Combine that with their cheap fares, LOT is a fantastic way to earn a lot of status miles cheaply.
LOT is a mixed airline, some crews are fantastic some aren’t. Sometimes flights are delayed and sometimes they aren’t – it is a 50/50 situation basically. So you might have a great flight and you might not. Either way, the food and drinks should be decent in Business and Premium Economy and depending on the situation, you could have a great crew.
LOT’s current North American routes include Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, New York JFK, Newark, and Toronto. They also operate a number of flights to Asian cities and cities in the Middle East, in addition to their extensive European network.
