Late last year, Lufthansa announced that starting in 2020 with the delivery of their new Boeing 777-9, the airline will install a new, revolutionary Business Class seat with direct aisle access from every seat. The new Business Class seat will feature much more privacy, more storage, more shoulder space, larger monitors, and “wonderful sleep”!

Shortly after the introduction of the new Business Class cabin, Lufthansa announced that starting in Spring 2018, Lufthansa’s current long-haul Business Class experience will feature mattresses, duvets, and pyjamas. The past few months have consisted of LH making several changes – from the onboard experience to branding to airport check-in to Miles & More. While I find almost all of the changes positive, the biggest negative change is that Miles & More is now revenue-based, which means members earn miles based on the ticket price and not the distance flown.
Starting today, select Lufthansa long-haul flights (10.5h or more) now feature the new “Dream Collection” – a larger, warmer blanket, a new pillowcase, a comfortable mattress pad, and a new “sleep shirt” from Van Laack. Lufthansa’s long-haul flights in Business Class to and from South Africa, Latin America, South America, and the West Coast of the United States feature the new Dream Collection and enhanced amenities ensuring passengers enjoy relaxing sleep. Starting in June, the Dream Collection will also be available on select flights to/from Asia. The remaining flights will feature new blankets and pillowcases later in the year.
The mattress pad was designed and developed specifically for LH Business Class and is made of 100% cotton – which is ideal for air circulation. The new pillowcase and blanket provide excellent comfort and guarantee wonderful sleep. All of the new amenities feature Lufthansa’s new design and branding.
LH is proving itself to be a true five-star airline. While Lufthansa’s First Class service was always five-stars, their Business Class service wasn’t always the best… until now. Lufthansa’s Business Class “soft product” is now five-stars, as not a lot of airlines feature mattress pads and pyjamas in Business Class. The Lufthansa Business Class “hard product” will truly be five-stars with the introduction of the new cabin in 2020.
All in all, I’m very happy LH is making so many positive changes throughout many aspects of the airline. While the flying experience is now much more pleasant, I really wish they hadn’t changed Miles & More to become revenue-based… as that’s what destroys loyalty the most.
