Excellent Award Availability Alert! You can book Qantas First using Alaska Airlines or oneworld miles from Sydney to Dallas throughout various dates until the end of the year. The best availability appears during summer travel dates. Qantas’ Sydney to Dallas flight is one of the best for maximising the First Class experience. You will also be able to access the fantastic Qantas First Class Lounge in Sydney.
Some of the dates even have 2+ seats available… which is incredible for one of Qantas’ longest flights. My favourite way to book Qantas is using Alaska Airlines miles as you can have a stopover somewhere in Australia or in Dallas. For example, you can fly Perth to Sydney to Dallas to New York on one ticket, for 70k Alaska miles in First Class. You can stopover in Sydney for however long you’d like (or in Dallas). Keep in mind that you would have to change airports in Dallas as Qantas arrives at DFW while most Alaska flights depart from DAL. You can’t fly AA from DFW to connect elsewhere as Alaska only allows you to have one partner airline + Alaska on an award ticket.
The taxes/fees are very minimal at around ~$100, so I consider this a fantastic redemption. To further maximise this redemption, I would stopover in Sydney and fly to Honolulu via Dallas and LAX/SFO/SEA. You can find First Class availability on Alaska’s (Virgin’s) Airbus aircraft from SFO/LAX – so you can fly in a premium cabin the whole way. I booked Perth – Sydney (stopover) – Dallas (change of airport) – Los Angeles – Hawaii all in First Class for 70k Alaska miles.
Qantas First is awesome and while it isn’t as great as Cathay, Lufthansa, or Etihad, it is still an incredible experience.
