Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer is a frequent flyer programme I use a lot for travelling from Europe to the Middle East. Business Class costs only 25k miles one-way, First Class used to cost just 35k miles – but that was changed recently due to the programme’s devaluation. Nevertheless, being able to fly from Europe to the Middle East for just 25k miles in Business Class on carriers like Lufthansa, SWISS, Turkish Airlines, etc. is a great deal.

The beauty of KrisFlyer is that you can transfer virtually any transferable points currency to the programme. The important thing to note, however, is that transfers aren’t instant and can take a few days (AMEX and Chase transfers complete within 12 to 24 hours). Many people avoid KrisFlyer due to the transfer of points not being instant and they don’t want to take the chance that award space might be gone by the time the transfer is completed. However, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer allows you to hold an award ticket for a few days. This is amazing since you can easily hold a ticket (and your desired routing) and simply call back a few hours later when the transfer is completed to ticket.

Many people do not know that you can hold an award ticket with Singapore Airlines. However, there are a few important things to note: not all agents will allow you to, however I’ve found that if you explain a bit more that you’re waiting for a transfer to complete, they will hold the flights for you. They will usually hold the booking for 24h, though I’ve had some bookings held for 72h – which is incredible. The agent can also price the ticket for you before you transfer any points to miles, so that you are aware of the total cost in points and taxes. KrisFlyer does impose fuel surcharges on award tickets (with the exception of a few airlines), so it is important to note that you may pay more cash than if you were redeeming through another programme.
