Lufthansa German Airlines is introducing à la carte meals in Premium Economy Class and Economy Class starting this summer. Passengers will be able to order higher-quality meals before their flight at an extra charge. Seven selected menus will be available on most long-haul flights departing from Frankfurt and Munich beginning later this year. Examples of menu items include:
- grilled steak
- Bento Box with a selection of classic Japanese sushi specialities
- hearty Bavarian snacks
- Asian vitality menu with quinoa
- Mediterranean pasta with shrimp
- exotic Thai curry
All ordered à la carte meals will be served to passengers on exclusive, stylish porcelain. The ordered meals will be served first instead of the regular meal, and will cost between 19 – 33 Euros. The meals can be booked on Lufthansa’s website up to 24h prior to departure.
Lufthansa currently serves the same meal in Premium Economy Class as they do in Economy – the only difference is that it isn’t served in plastic – passengers also receive glass cups for wine in Premium Economy. Lufthansa’s Premium Economy product is one of my favourites for a medium-haul flight as the seat is comfortable enough to spend 4-6 hours in – the additional space and seat recline are well worth it.
LH Premium Economy also includes a variety of other benefits such as additional baggage allowance, a welcome drink, more personalised service, lounge access for a fee, and more. Lufthansa frequently has great fares for travel in Premium Economy – which earn a good amount of miles, so it sometimes is worth paying a bit more to experience a better seat and receive more miles towards status.
