I recently redeemed 100k American Airlines AAdvantage miles for travel from Tel Aviv to Brisbane in First Class via Amman, Abu Dhabi, and Sydney. The longest segment was Etihad Airways A380 First Class from Abu Dhabi to Sydney. The taxes on this ticket were just under $100 USD, which I consider an incredible redemption. The first flight from Tel Aviv to Amman was short at just ~20 minutes and was operated by Royal Jordanian on an Airbus A320.
Royal Jordanian operates flights between Tel Aviv and Amman – and they come with an expensive price tag. Economy Class costs ~$300 and Business Class ~$450. The reason for this is because there isn’t really any other ways to travel from Tel Aviv to the Middle East, and Amman is the best connection point – so Royal Jordanian has a monopoly on this route.
Our flight lasted around 20 minutes and was fantastic. We were welcomed by two friendly Jordanian flight attendants who offered to hang our jackets and offered pre-departure beverages – a choice of water or juice. Business Class consisted of a 2-2 configuration on the A320 and the flight departed a few minutes behind schedule, however since it was blocked at 45 minutes, we still arrived ahead of schedule. There were no meals served in Business or Economy due to the short duration of the flight, and I’m not even sure if Economy Class passengers were served any drinks.
Once we landed in Amman, we were once again warmly welcomed in Jordan and proceeded to Royal Jordanian’s lounge, where we ate the most delicious Arabic food while waiting for our Etihad Airways Business Class flight to Abu Dhabi. All in all, I really enjoyed the flight and wouldn’t hesitate to fly again with the Jordanian airline.
