United Airlines, a founding member of the Star Alliance, is the worst full-service and “traditional” airline in America. From rude flight attendants, to incompetent and idiotic phone agents, to passengers being dragged off of the aircraft, to $hit service in First Class, the list goes on and on… United Polaris, the new Business Class service, isn’t any better and never will be, like promised.
I used to like United. Really. I flew with them so many times domestically during 2013 – 2015 that even flight attendants began to recognise me (of course I was never thanked for my loyalty, but whatever). The problem with United is that the airline is getting worse and worse, despite all of the promised enhancements. Here are 5 reasons why United’s Polaris service is awful.
1. United Polaris First Class is the same as Polaris Business Class
I know that United Polaris First Class (Global First) is being removed, however when I book “First Class”, I expect First Class and not Business Class. Not with United! First and Business Class is literally the same at United Airlines – the ticket doesn’t matter. The service is the same, the food is the same, the amenities are the same, everything is the same – well maybe except the seat (but that isn’t saying much).
United loves plastic. Nothing screams First/Business Class like plastic cups!
3. The Attitude of Flight Attendants
Is worse than on Air Koryo, as far as I am concerned. Recently, I had a flight attendant walk through the First Class cabin and shout at passengers “tray table on your left/right, get it out”. You’ve got to be kidding me. Then she proceeded to throw the tablecloth on the tray table.
4. Lack of Basic First Class service
On United, you have to ask for everything. You want a drink? You have to ask. You want a snack? You have to ask. You’re never proactively asked, but rather you, the First Class passenger, must ask.
United does provide
fake Saks Fifth Avenue bedding and claims they offer a turndown service – but that doesn’t really exist. Instead the FA will simply throw a mattress pad on your seat and you, the passenger, is left to do everything else. Oh, and there’s a limited number of mattress pads on each flight – so you aren’t guaranteed one.
5. Lack of Food
“We don’t have any more main course options for breakfast”. This isn’t even acceptable in Business Class… Do I need to say more?
United is awful. Everything about the airline is terrible. From them killing your dogs, to dragging off passengers off of aircrafts, to incompetent and rude agents, to authoritative flight attendants, the list goes on and on. Even United miles aren’t worth much anymore due to high redemption rates and a terrible website which doesn’t allow you to book your desired flights together.
Please don’t fly United. Ever.
