Miles & More miles are one of the most valuable miles because you can use them to book Lufthansa First Class whenever you want and are not subject to the two-week restriction that is imposed on other Star Alliance airlines. Miles & More members also have access to more First and Business Class award space on Lufthansa Group flights.
A while back, Miles & More eliminated the ability to buy miles directly from the frequent flyer programme for reasons I don’t know. Currently, the best way to earn Miles & More miles is by either applying for the Miles & More credit card or by transferring from Starwood Preferred Guest. Miles & More does impose fuel surcharges on most airlines, however, the trick to reduce them is by starting your journey in select European countries (where the taxes/fees and fuel surcharges will be ~$250 USD for a First Class ticket to North America).
The best way to “buy” Miles & More miles has been through various catalogue subscriptions, like the The Economist, which partners with Lufthansa’s frequent flyer programme and offers bonus miles for signing up. The other subscription partner for years has been getAbstract, which is described as follows:
Wouldn’t it be great if you could learn something new in just a few minutes? With getAbstract, you can. getAbstract offers the world’s largest online library of summaries: Get an overview of the latest trends in health & well-being, business, economy and much more.
So essentially it is an online super-powered Google that you have to pay for.. or something like that. While I have no interest in paying for education anymore (thank god uni is over), getAbstract is currently offering a promotion whereby if you subscribe for the “Pro” plan, you will earn 15k + 5k Miles & More miles for a total of 20k. The offer is normally 15k miles for the subscription, however it has been increased this month:
For every getAbstract Pro supscription you will earn 15,000 miles. If you subscribe to getAbstract Pro between 1 and 30 November 2017, you will earn additional 5,000 miles.
The “Pro” plan costs €299 per year, so that is essentially like paying €299 for 20k Miles & More miles, which is not bad at all. If you actually value the getAbstract subscription, I think the deal is even better.
