Hello from Asia’s World City – Hong Kong! I just flew here in Cathay Pacific Business Class from San Francisco on the Boeing 777-300ER overnight and landed in Hong Kong this morning.
I redeemed Alaska Airlines miles for this Cathay Pacific flight and another flight I have in a few days. So Hong Kong is my stopover for the purpose of the award – Alaska miles are still somewhat valuable!
Up until now, I hadn’t yet flown Cathay Pacific Business Class (only First Class) and I was really excited to try it. Thankfully, a flight that worked well with my schedule had availability in Business Class and therefore I was able to quickly book it – literally the day before departure. To make sure I was having fun, I invited a friend along – and now we are in Hong Kong deciding where in the world to go next. We’ve decided we are flying around the world, but haven’t planned much in advance besides two Cathay Pacific flights.
Anyway, the 15 hour flight from San Francisco to Hong Kong in Cathay Pacific Business Class was incredible. I loved every second of it. The food was delicious, the seat was super comfortable, and the crew was phenomenal. Cathay’s B777-300ERs feature Business Class in a 1-2-1 configuration, with each seat having direct aisle access. The departure out of San Francisco was really late – at around 2 in the morning and therefore there was a “supper” snack instead of a full dinner.
The supper was delicious and consisted of some bread, dips, a steak, and a fresh fruit salad. The steak was mouthwatering and absolutely delicious – it was presented alongside of some sauce which was equally tasty. I slept for a solid 10 hours in between the meals, and was able to sightsee for the whole day today in Hong Kong. In my opinion, flights longer than 12 hours are perfect for travel in Business and First Class. This is because you can still get enough reasonable sleep and experience the product without having to feel rushed.
