Happy 2017! Should I fly Lufthansa or SWISS First Class? The first major question of the year… We are less than a day into the new year and the future so far is looking bright! As I mentioned before, 2017 will be a y-u-u-g-e year for me as I plan to move back to Europe in less than six months (after finishing university in Seattle).
The past three weeks I’ve been in Poland and travelling around Europe, while simultaneously celebrating Christmas and welcoming the New Year. I’ve spent a lot of time with my family over the past few weeks, so it has been awesome. However, January has started.. and it is a month I do not particularly like because rarely something exciting happens in January. It also means I have to head back to Seattle… this time, however, is the last time I have to go.
I’m sure I will travel to America a lot to visit friends and explore more of the country over the coming years, but this is the last time right now that I absolutely have to go back.. basically by force since I have to finish university. Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t that I don’t enjoy it.. but there’s just something about leaving my family behind that makes me sad.
So now that I have to go back, I’m having a hard time figuring out how to fly back. Warning: First World Problems. It’s no secret that I love Lufthansa First Class, so naturally they are an option which is always available to me. And because I’m a Miles & More Senator, I have access to a bit more award space. However, I just have flown Lufthansa First Class and while I love it, I want to fly something different.. and really the only other First Class option I have is SWISS First. I would never fly United Global First if I also have a choice to fly Lufthansa or SWISS.
So, yes, I have the choice of Lufthansa or SWISS First Class. Truth be told, right now I am seeing more availability with SWISS than Lufthansa in First Class.. and that normally is the case since just a handful of people can redeem miles for SWISS First. So while I love Lufthansa’s First Class caviar and ground services in Frankfurt, I *think* I will be booking SWISS First Class in the next few days. As far as the experience goes, it is roughly the same. While SWISS has an awesome new First Class Lounge in Zurich, they don’t have the best ground services in terms of driving you to your aircraft.
Another factor is that SWISS’ First Class food is better than Lufthansa’s, but that shouldn’t be the only deciding reason. SWISS is calling my name since I haven’t flown SWISS First Class that much while I have flown Lufthansa First Class just about every other month for the past three years…
Either way, I have to fly and make a decision shortly.. so this will be one of the smaller “first” decisions I make in 2017.. and it is a difficult one!
