Ever since I was young, I knew I always wanted to visit Zurich, Switzerland – there’s just something magical about the city (and the whole country) that fascinates me. Swiss people are among the kindest in the world and the most loving and accepting of all, something that’s important to me.
Naturally, my interest to visit Switzerland grew more when SWISS released their new brand video earlier this year, that lots of us quickly grew to love.
Not only did I want to visit as a tourist to take in the majestic views and captivating history, but also since I’m currently looking for the perfect place to live in Europe and have been travelling to find it. Since I’m in my home country of Poland this summer, I figured I would visit the city sometime in July for a few days and fly with SWISS on their new flight from Kraków.
I used Google Flights to search for the entire month of July and I found a low fare in mid-July on SWISS for ~$150 USD. Now, normally, this isn’t that “low” of a fare since other European cities go for a bit less… but Switzerland is more expensive and the average fare on this route was ~$300 USD.. so I jumped at the opportunity to visit Zurich for $150. The flights were as follows:
11 July 2016: SWISS 1371 Kraków (KRK) – Zurich (ZRH), 14:45 – 16:30, LX Business
13 July 2016: SWISS 1370 Zurich (ZRH) – Kraków (KRK), 07:30 – 09:15, LX Economy
I upgraded the outbound flight from Kraków to Business Class since I wanted to compare SWISS’ Intra-European Business Class to that of Lufthansa, for example. SWISS allows for cash upgrades online on certain routes and they were offering it on my flight for $99 USD… which seemed like kind of a ridiculous price to pay given the whole ticket was $150.. but since I’m a blogger, I figured it would be worth it for a review, a nice snack, and some extra miles.
In terms of hotels, I was there for just two nights, so therefore I decided on a hotel closer to the centre on the first night and closer to the airport on the second night (given the departure for the return flight was early). So I booked the Crowne Plaza Zurich and the Park Inn by Radisson Airport Hotel. I booked both hotels using points given that paid rates were upwards of $270 USD per night and I figured it would be worth burning some of my points.
As far as the city goes itself, I absolutely loved the city, culture, people, history, etc. Just two days in the city was enough to make me want to return for longer in the future. The scenery is beyond gorgeous and I was captivated by the history of Switzerland throughout my time. I also particularly loved the fact that I was breathing in fresh air, it really did feel a bit different to take in the air that Switzerland has. This might just be my future home…
