Alaska Airlines 440
Seattle (SEA) – Los Angeles (LAX)
04 June 2016
My friend, Maria, and I have been travelling quite a bit together recently. I’ve more or less dragged her into the miles and points hobby and she absolutely loves it – she has been collecting miles for a few months now through flying and credit cards that I’ve recommended.
We’ve been flying Alaska Airlines a lot recently and that’s mainly due to the fact that they’ve been having some excellent fares out of Seattle. We flew to New York for ~$230, Las Vegas for ~$110, and now to Los Angeles for ~$120. These are all great deals and we’ve been building up our Alaska accounts and will soon be MVPs.
We decided to fly to Los Angeles for just seven hours on a Saturday and have lunch in Santa Monica and just walk around (since it is just a 30 minute drive from LAX). Both flights were relatively empty and therefore we were able to upgrade to First Class for ~$50 per person, each way – which I think is a great deal.
We arrived at the airport at around 07:00 for our 09:00 flight to Los Angeles. We enjoyed some amazing breakfast at the AMEX Centurion Studio and relaxed a bit before heading to the gate at 08:25. Boarding was right as scheduled and we were soon on the plane, comfortable in First Class, where two bottles of water were waiting for us.
We departed Seattle right on time and were instantly presented with the gorgeous surroundings of the Pacific Northwest.
Once we reached cruising altitude, breakfast orders were taken. We both went with some Tea to accompany our breakfast. There were two choices: granola or scrambled eggs. We both decided to try the granola, since it sounded delicious, and it sure was! The breakfast was perhaps the best I’ve ever eaten on a U.S. airline. It was simply delicious. I mixed the granola with the yoghurt and later enjoyed the fruit salad. Everything was tasty and I was quite impressed that I was just served a delicious breakfast on a U.S. airline, but then again, Alaska usually does have great meals.
We spent the majority of the flight just talking and discussing about where we want to fly to next. We were supposed to study for one of our final exams, but since we’re both “experts” on databases, we decided not to instead. Typical college kids.
We landed in Los Angeles a few minutes ahead of schedule and reached the gate a few minutes later. The crew was fantastic on the flight and everything was served with a smile. Again, I’m impressed with the breakfast that Alaska served – it was simply delicious.
We spent the day in Santa Monica and headed back to the airport in the evening to fly back to Seattle. Overall, we had an awesome time by the beach and just walking around and exploring. Here’s to another trip!
