Breakfast and a Massage in Dallas – Introduction

The American Express Centurion Lounges are considered one of the best lounges throughout the United States. American Express is amazing at innovation and has truly created gorgeous and relaxing lounges at various airports in America. Current AMEX Centurion Lounges in the United States include:

New Centurion Lounges are coming soon to Los Angeles (LAX) and Houston (IAH). What makes AMEX Centurion Lounges special is that they’re different and drastically better than any lounge ever operated by a U.S. airline. The Centurion Lounges feature real food and drinks (whereas most U.S. airline lounges feature snacks), the premium alcoholic drinks are complimentary (whereas U.S. airlines require you to pay), the Centurion Lounges are very comfortable and feature a range of different seating areas, and of course AMEX’s amazing customer service is displayed in the lounge.

AMEX has already changed the U.S. lounge “scene” by a mile and is innovating to bring Centurion Lounges to more airports nationwide. I’ve been to a majority of the Centurion Lounges and still will need to visit Miami to have a complete list (in addition to when LAX and IAH open). I frequently fly from Seattle through San Francisco, therefore it’s awesome to be able to have AMEX lounges at both locations. Since Houston and Los Angeles are United hubs, I will enjoy those lounges when they open as well.

American Express The Centurion Lounge Dallas is located at Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Airport near gate D17 and is open from 05:30 until 22:00, daily. All gates are connected airside via a train and therefore this lounge is accessible from any terminal. American Express Platinum and Centurion cardholders are granted complimentary access and the guest policy is as follows:

Centurion® Members and Platinum Card® Members who receive complimentary access may enter with up to two guests or immediate family (spouse or domestic partner, and children under 18) at no additional charge. Family and guests may not enter or remain in the lounge unless accompanied in the lounge by the Card Member.

If you purchase a one-day pass, your children under 18 may accompany you at no additional charge. You must purchase a one-day pass for any additional guests.

The Dallas Centurion Lounge is located on an upper level within Terminal D, above restaurants and shops. The lounge is unique in that it spreads across various shops and restaurants and the lounge is connected through a series of hallways and corridors that feature seating areas. Basically, the lounge doesn’t consist of one or two big areas, but rather has various smaller areas with plenty of seating that are connected together.

There are two sections to the lounge – the food area and the seating area (as shown above) and then a media/business area/centre. As you enter the lounge, the food area is located to the left and the media area, to the right. All areas in the lounge are connected through a series of hallways that feature additional seating areas.

The media/business area/centre features a large conference table, snacks, drinks, TVs, a computer bar, and comfortable seating. Entrances to the spa, restrooms, and shower suites are located near the media area. A family room is also located near this area.

There are two options for the spa, both complimentary: a massage or manicure (both lasting about 15 minutes). I decided to try the massage, which was very relaxing and afterwards, showered.

The lounge features a few shower suites that include amenities from L’Occitane en Provence. The shower suites are gorgeous, but not as beautiful as the lounge overall. Access to the shower suites is of course complimentary, but you must request a shower and may be placed on a waiting list.

The shower room includes plenty of towels and a hair dryer, in addition to the shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, and lotion.

All in all, the American Express Centurion Lounge in Dallas is one of the best lounges in the United States. My favourite Centurion Lounge remains the San Francisco lounge, the Dallas lounge is nice, however I don’t like how the lounge simply consists of smaller areas connected by hallways and doesn’t feature a larger room as other Centurion Lounges do.

Nevertheless, the lounge is up to the standards of other Centurion Lounges – and perhaps a bit more due to the fact that it features a complimentary spa. I spent about two hours in the lounge – an hour relaxing and eating, and then another hour enjoying the massage and shower. It is very convenient for the lounge to be accessible from other areas of the airport – the train is very quick and it takes about 7-10 minutes to reach the lounge from other terminals.

I encourage you to visit a Centurion Lounge, you will feel relaxed and comfortable for the start of your journey.

  1. I have visited all the Centurion Lounges and the food at Dallas was the best. If you like Southwestern cuisine this is the lounge for you!

  2. So, I have an Amex Plat and plan to fly into DFW on a Saturday, stay the night at an airport hotel, and then continue onto CUN the next morning. May I enter the Centurion Saturday afternoon AFTER arriving at DFW? Or only before departing for CUN? Thanks!!
