A few days ago, I had a chance to experience Lufthansa First Class on the Airbus A380 for the first time. I hadn’t yet flown the A380 before this flight and I was super excited to be able to experience the world’s largest passenger aircraft.. on the world’s best airline… on a 11 hour flight.
Earlier this week, I blogged about how Lufthansa was striking and I was supposed to fly FRA-SFO on the 9th of September, but my connecting European flight to FRA was cancelled, and I was rebooked on FRA-SFO on the 10th of September… in Full Fare F (yes, the miles already posted).
While I will have a full (very detailed and long) trip report soon, I just wanted to share my initial thoughts on the whole experience. The F cabin was just half full, with all of the window seats taken, and therefore the centre seats were empty and we each had two seats for ourselves – one for sleeping and the other for eating. As I was taking pictures of the cabin during boarding, I noticed one other passenger was interested (and amazed) at Lufthansa First Class and also taking pictures of the cabin, I chatted with him a bit and it turns out he redeemed miles and knows about FlyerTalk, the hobby, etc. It was awesome to see another person sharing my excitement and our ‘hobby’.
There are a few factors that made this my best flight ever and those include: the service, the food, and the aircraft. Let me just begin by saying that the crew was by far the best I’ve ever had on Lufthansa, simply amazing flight attendants in First Class and a great purser who made sure we were being taken care of. There were two primary FAs in First Class – a young one, and an older one. The younger one mainly interacted with me throughout the flight and prepared my food, etc. She was awesome and very professional, but for the most part super friendly and had the perfect balance of “professional, yet personal”.
The food was amazing, Lufthansa doesn’t always have the best food in First Class, however this time they got every single food item right, everything was delicious and tasty. I tried virtually everything on the menu and I was amazed at the quality. Delicious!
The Airbus A380 is definitely the quietest airplane I’ve ever been on, I mean it literally felt as if we were on the ground, you could barely hear the engines. First Class also has special noise-cancelling curtains and material, so it is also quieter than other cabins.
The flight lasted about 11 hours and it felt the perfect length. Everything was downright amazing and I will never forget this flight, as it was truly a one-of-a-kind experience for me. Lufthansa, you are simply the best!
