The beauty of having a Star Alliance Gold card means that I can access any Star Alliance carrier’s lounge worldwide when flying any Star Alliance carrier.. even in Economy. In this case I was flying United Business class to Mexico City and I hold a Star Alliance Gold card which made me eligible to use the lounge.
The second lounge after the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge, was the EVA Air Evergreen Lounge San Francisco. The lounge is located at the end of the long hallway that you use to get to the Singapore Airlines lounge, the hallway is located right of the entrance to the United Club in the International Terminal.
First impressions of the lounge – does not smell like the SilverKris lounge next door, and has a more vibrant design and more colours to make the lounge look nice.. whereas the Singapore Airlines lounge was all dark colours which made it feel depressing.
I enjoyed the lounge much more than the SilverKris lounge since the environment and food was significantly better. The two lounges are about the same size but they are a different setup – the food in this lounge is in the front of the lounge and the seating areas are further back, overlooking the runway.
Near the front of the lounge is the reception, business centre, more seating areas, and a food area.
While the food isn’t First Class quality, it might be one of the better food options from some of the other lounges at San Francisco (except of course, the Centurion Lounge). The food spread consisted of several different types of pies, yogurt, salads, fruit, vegetables, alcohol, chips, cookies, snacks, etc. Overall a very good spread of food – ranging from healthy to very unhealthy 🙂 .
There were also traditional Asian food options, both warm and cold.
Near the back of the lounge is a special area for EVA Air Diamond members. It is basically a separate room for just Diamond members which also has some extra food and more comfortable seats. In theory anyone can go into the room since it isn’t really checked whether you’re a Diamond or not.
The food is basically the same as in the main area, but I guess for convenience they just brought it to the room.
Overall, the lounge is one of the better ones in San Francisco. As a Star Alliance Gold member or travelling in Star Alliance premium cabins, you should have access to most of the Star Alliance lounges in San Francisco. The international terminal also has the United Club in which the food isn’t great, so if you are hungry I would recommend this lounge.
The lounge itself is very pleasant and comfortable, the staff are super friendly, and the environment is very relaxing.
