It has been over a month since I’ve been in the air (not by choice, by the way) and I’m getting anxious being ‘grounded’. This might also explain my lack of posts over the past couple of weeks, basically I’ve just started the end of my second year at uni and I’ve been super busy finalising next year to make sure I’m able to specialise in what I want (which is something related to Web Design/Development).

So I’ve been experiencing various feelings related to not flying and the first thing I did was to see if there were any mileage runs this weekend available… and as luck would have it, there were! Plenty! So, well.. I booked one 🙂 I’m about 50% done with Star Alliance Gold re-qualification for this year and after another mileage run I will be about 75% done which will mean that after this one, two more mileage runs (~7k miles each) should push me over. The main reason why I’m mileage running now is because from June forward through the end of the year, I have only award tickets booked so that isn’t going to help me in terms of status. I figured I’d spend the first half(ish) of 2015 mileage running and the second half (including summer) flying to places I desire on award tickets.

Uni is currently set to end the first week of June, so that will leave me June through the beginning of October to travel the world. I’ve got a couple of awesome trips booked (including segments in Lufthansa First Class!), and currently I’m trying to plan another trip for August which will take me to a part of the world I’ve never been to (more on that soon).

Basically what I’m saying is that while there really won’t be any trip reports for the next two months or so (unless you guys want to read about domestic United First Class over and over 😉 ), I plan on more informative posts such as how to start from the beginning in the ‘mileage hobby’, other helpful mileage tips and some of my favourite ways to accumulate and redeem miles.

Aside from more mileage runs, I wanted to spend a weekend in New York in May and I’m trying to figure out the best time to do that. If I go, I will make sure to stay at the Park Hyatt since I’ve got two free nights from the Chase Card, on the other hand I really don’t want to use those two nights in New York since I could use them in the place where most people use them which is… Maldives. I mean I’ve never been there before and it seems like it would be the best way to redeem those nights, of course I’d redeem points for more nights there. There’s an Austrian Airlines flight from Vienna to Male in the summer which costs 90k United miles in Business Class round-trip, so Maldives?!

Since I can’t really go anywhere for more than two days now due to uni, I’m trying to maximise my summer as much as possible and visit some of the places I’ve always wanted to go to. Anyway, for now, I’ve got two more months of United domestic First Class along with crackers & cookies in the United Clubs and such… I’m going to try to visit more lounges and post more reviews of non-United Clubs.

That’s it for now.. gotta go and study! (I wish they had a major in miles/travel…)
