In December I had the pleasure of taking my parents on an awesome trip to the Middle East and the Maldives, staying at the Park Hyatt. We also were able to experience some incredible Business Class products including Austrian, Etihad, SWISS, and Turkish Airlines. We loved every single flight.. except one Turkish Airlines Business Class flight from Istanbul to Frankfurt…
I redeemed ~60k Aeroplan miles per person to fly Male to Istanbul to Frankfurt to Kraków with Turkish Airlines on the first two segments and Lufthansa on the last segment, in Business Class. The flight from Male to Istanbul was incredible – featuring Turkish Airlines’ “real” lie-flat Business Class product on the A330. The Istanbul to Frankfurt flight, well, featured Turkish Airlines’ old A330 Business Class… and what’s awful is that literally half of the seats in the cabin didn’t recline… and the other half were blocked because they were said to be broken…
I’m not complaining too much because the flight was 2.5h, however, I do think that Turkish Airlines shouldn’t operate an aircraft where literally every single Business Class seat won’t recline.. that’s insane. I don’t care how old the aircraft is, I paid for Business Class and expected a reclining seat (as Turkish even has those on their short-haul fleet). What’s more, is that I specifically selected the A330 segment between Istanbul and Frankfurt because these seats were supposed to recline more than their normal short-haul Business Class product..
While the flight attendants were super friendly and kind, they did not apologise for the seats not working, which I don’t think was very professional since most of the passengers were a bit angry considering this was an early morning flight and most people just flew in from elsewhere overnight. I did write to Turkish Airlines and they offered 3k miles… which are mostly useless to me as I don’t have any points that transfer to Turkish Airlines.
If you’re flying within Europe on Turkish Airlines in Business Class, I would avoid their old A330 as the seats seem to be constantly broken.
