SWISS First Class is awesome – while it isn’t as amazing and incredible as Lufthansa First Class, SWISS First Class is still definitely in my top five. I’ve flown SWISS First Class a few times already on all of their long-haul aircraft (Airbus A330, Airbus A340, and Boeing 777) and because SWISS First awards are restricted to Miles & More Senators and HON Circle Members, availability is better than Lufthansa First Class.

Miles & More Senator and HON Circle status is very valuable – we can waitlist Lufthansa and SWISS First Class and the award space will usually clear for us if the cabin isn’t full. The only thing is that Miles & More charges fuel surcharges meaning that an average one-way from America to Europe in First or Business Class will cost around $500 USD in taxes/fees and surcharges. If starting in Europe, it is usually half of that at around $250. Miles & More also charges a premium in terms of mileage for First Class – 85k miles one-way from America to Europe, however I don’t consider that to be too bad since United charges 80-110k and Aeroplan 70-80k.

While SWISS First Class is always generally more available than Lufthansa First Class to Miles & More Senators and HON Circle Members, at the moment I’m seeing much more SWISS First award space to destinations such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, Bangkok, and Hong Kong. Those are fantastic flights since they are ultra long-haul and SWISS flies their new Boeing 777-300ER on these routes with a personal suite in First Class. If you’re a Senator or HON Circle Member and have been looking at flying SWISS First with someone, now is the time to book as I’m seeing 1-3 award seats on most of those flights.

Keep in mind that one passenger must be a Senator or HON Circle Member since SWISS First awards are restricted to those members only. However, the second passenger doesn’t even have to be a general Miles & More member – it can be anyone. That means that I can book SWISS First Class for anyone as long as I travel with them – which I have done in the past for family and friends.
