The first ever credit card that I applied for when I turned 18 is the Lufthansa Miles & More® World Elite Mastercard®, which is issued by Barclaycard US. I fly with Lufthansa and the Lufthansa Group the most and therefore Miles & More is my primary (and favourite) frequent flyer programme. Since I’m a Senator, I can literally book Lufthansa First Class or SWISS First Class whenever I want and due to my status, I can often waitlist flights and the space will clear. If you want to book LH First Class using miles more than 14 days before departure, the only way is through Miles & More.
Right now, the Miles & More Mastercard is offering 50k bonus award miles after signing up for the credit card and completing the following qualifying transactions:
- 20k award miles after first purchase and payment of the annual fee
- 30k award miles after you spend $5k in purchases in the first 90 days
If you go for the full 50k bonus (which is well worth it), you will have a total of 55k award miles. The card also offers some other compelling benefits, including:
- 2 award miles per $1 USD spent on purchases with Adria Airways, Air Dolomiti, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Croatia Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa Regional, Lufthansa Private Jet, Luxair, and SWISS
- 1 award mile per $1 USD spent on other purchases
- 2 Lufthansa Business Lounge vouchers each year
- Annual companion ticket
- No foreign transaction fees
The $89 USD annual fee is waived if you are a Miles & More Senator or HON Circle Member.
If you’d like to redeem Miles & More miles for First Class travel, the required mileage is 85k Miles & More miles for a one-way First Class ticket from America to Europe. However, I would recommend redeeming these miles the other direction (Europe to America) because when you start in Europe, the taxes/fees and fuel surcharges you’ll pay are half of what they would be if you started your journey in America.
