Hello from Mexico City! I just arrived here from Amsterdam flying AeroMéxico’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner in Business Class (Clase Premier).
I’ve spent the past two weeks on a crazy trip around the world (make sure you’re following me on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook), and therefore I decided that since I was in Europe, I would visit my family at home in Poland for a few days before returning to Seattle to complete my final two months of university.. seriously I can’t wait to finally graduate so I can focus on miles & points full-time.
Fast forward to two nights ago when I was planning my flights to return back to Seattle. There wasn’t anything decent available to the West Coast in Lufthansa First Class, and I sure as hell won’t waste miles to fly Lufthansa First Class on a 7 hour flight to New York or Washington.. that’s not a good value! So I got creative…
I’ve been wanting to fly AeroMéxico’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner in Business Class for quite some time now, but I never had the chance due to other trips and other flights I’ve been wanting to take. Well, turns out Delta miles are useful.. for travel on basically any airline except Delta! KLM had Business Class availability from Kraków to Amsterdam and then AeroMéxico Business Class was available from Amsterdam to Mexico City on the B787 Dreamliner.. for just 65k Delta SkyMiles and less than $50 USD in taxes/fees… now that is an amazing use of Delta miles.
So how was the flight? It was awesome and it was my first red-eye flight from Europe to North America, which departed Amsterdam around 22:30 and arrived in Mexico at 04:00. The total flight time was around 11 hours and 36 minutes and I was able to sleep for 9 hours.. which I consider fantastic. The food was edible (not overly amazing, but edible), and the flight attendants were equally nice.
AeroMéxico’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner in Business Class on the B787-8 features a configuration of 2-2-2, whereas the B787-9 features a 1-2-1 configuration. I was on the B787-8 in seat 3A, and thankfully didn’t have anyone sitting next to me. Business Class was mostly empty, so it was nice and quiet.
All in all, I really enjoyed the flight (even though I fell asleep over Dublin and woke up around 1 hour before landing), the food was edible and the seat was super comfortable. I was able to use two blankets and two pillows, so I could really sleep in comfort. Overall, I wouldn’t hesitate to fly AeroMéxico’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner in Business Class again, a fantastic use of Delta SkyMiles!
