I love Miles & More. Yes, they charge fuel surcharges on nearly every single airline and yes most of the award flights booked through them are a bit overpriced.. but… I love Miles & More. Perhaps my favourite feature (besides being able to redeem miles for Lufthansa and SWISS First Class when I want) is the Miles & More Senator Companion Award.
The Senator Companion Award enables Miles & More Senator and HON Circle Members to bring a companion on an award ticket for half of the cost. The companion does not have to hold any elite status with Miles & More, however the Senator or HON Circle member must be travelling with the companion on the same booking in the same booking class.
For example, say I redeem 100k Miles & More miles for a Lufthansa First Class ticket and I want to bring a friend… no problem! I can bring one companion on the same booking on the same flights for just 50k miles (50% of the cost of a normal award). All required miles must be deducted from the Senator or HON Circle member’s mileage account, meaning that you cannot take the required miles for the companion from their account directly.
The Senator Companion Award is only available on flights operated by Lufthansa, Luxair, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Croatia Airlines, Adria Airways, Eurowings, and Germanwings. The moment you add a flight operated by an airline not listed here, the booking becomes ineligible for the companion award. I really wish they included United Airlines in the list because it would be much easier to then connect domestically in the U.S. from a Lufthansa, SWISS, or Austrian flight.
I’ve used this feature a ton of times before, especially when travelling with friends or family. It really does save a ton of miles, especially on a long-haul First Class ticket. Being able to travel in Lufthansa or SWISS First Class for half of the cost with a companion is an incredible deal.
