Grüezi! Last Thursday I had the privilege of flying SWISS First Class from Zurich to Los Angeles on HB-JND, one of SWISS’ brand new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The flight was absolutely incredible and the new First Class product is miles ahead of SWISS’ A340 First Class, and also even a bit better than SWISS’ A330 First Class.
I redeemed 85k Miles and More miles two days before the flight, plus $250 USD in taxes/fees and fuel surcharges. I started my journey in Kraków, the day before, and flew to the city of Music with Austrian Airlines where I spent the night. Then the next day I took an early morning flight to Zurich with Austrian and spent about 5 hours in the new SWISS First Lounge before my flight to LAX.
While I will have a full trip report soon, I just wanted to note how amazing the flight was. The new First Class product on the 777-300ER is stunning, the seat is essentially a suite whereby you can slide out your wardrobe and fully enclose the suite. The seat is also very comfortable and together with the provided bedding, I was able to sleep for eight hours and woke up feeling refreshed. The food was also beyond delicious and I was able to sample some Swiss food and enjoy other delicious items which were all fresh and tasted excellent.
The crew was also beyond friendly and kind to all of the passengers and they really ensured we are comfortable and satisfied throughout the flight. The captain also welcomed everyone after boarding and explained to us the flight time, route, etc. Needless to say, all of those aspects were awesome. However, we were scheduled to depart at 13:10 and departed around 15:30 due to snowy weather in Zurich. Boarding was delayed by about 15 minutes, but then we ended up sitting on the plane for about two hours before we could make it to the runway, de-ice, and depart.
All in all, the flight was fantastic and I’m happy I was able to redeem my Miles and More miles for the flight. As I mentioned before, SWISS First has more availability for mileage redemptions since it is restricted to Senators and HON Circle Members, meaning that I can book it more easily than Lufthansa First Class, for example. I can’t wait until I fly SWISS again!
