SWISS First Class is among my favourite to redeem Miles & More miles for, it may have something to do with the fact that it is usually wide open for Miles & More Senator and HON Circle Members.. but also because I love SWISS. Yesterday I shared a tip with all of you about how you can fly SWISS First Class using ANY Star Alliance miles.. you just have to be creative.
Recently, due to the Lufthansa strike, my friend and I were rebooked in SWISS First (and we even earned miles for it). She’s not an elite with any airline, so I told her to enjoy the moment as she likely won’t be travelling in SWISS First any time soon. While I think Lufthansa First Class is overall better than SWISS First, there is still something about SWISS that I just love. I will say that the food is much better on SWISS than Lufthansa.
We were initially scheduled to fly from Mexico City to Munich to London with Lufthansa, but because of the strike, I rebooked us on Newark to Zurich to London with SWISS. We flew to Newark via Houston with United Airlines. The thing that sucked is that Newark to Zurich is only 7 hours of flying time.. something I specifically wanted to avoid (which is why we booked Mexico City to Munich). I wanted my friend to experience First Class for the longest amount of time possible… and instead, she experienced it for the shortest amount of time possible. Life goes on…
While I will have a full trip report of SWISS First, I wanted to share some initial photos and thoughts about the flight. While short, the flight was awesome and the flight attendants were incredibly friendly and beyond nice. One of them even appeared in SWISS’ newest brand video! That was super cool. The First Class cabin was half full, though the other two people slept the whole time, so it wasn’t an issue.
The food was beyond delicious and the champagne wasn’t bad either. The whole meal service took 2.5 hours, which meant we only had 3-4 hours of “sleeping” time, before breakfast. We were both dead-tired at that point and slept for the full four hours. The flight was definitely too short, but what can you do in the event of irregular operations. At least we were on SWISS and not rebooked on United. So, all in all, a great flight, just a bit short.
