a room with tables and chairs

Brussels and Barcelona – Introduction

THE LOFT by Brussels Airlines is the Belgian airline’s flagship lounge in their home base at Brussels Airport. THE LOFT is located in Pier A, across from gate A42, and is designated for use by Schengen passengers (however, non-Schengen passengers may also use the lounge). The lounge is open from 05:00 until 21:00.

In addition to First and Business Class passengers, Star Alliance Gold guests and Miles & More Frequent Travellers may access the lounge regardless of their booking class. Passengers travelling on Brussels Airlines’ Flex&Fast fare may purchase access to the lounge for a fee of 25 Euro.

The lounge is massive and is divided into several sections. The main food buffet is located in the centre of the lounge, the lounge’s bar is located near the back of the lounge, and various types of seating areas are available all around the buffet and by the windows. An exclusive area for HON Circle Members is available near the entrance to the lounge.

Microsoft tablets are available for rental from the b.connected area, which also features technology specialists who will help you get online and connected. While the main food buffet is located in the centre of the lounge, several areas throughout the lounge also feature water, tea, coffee, additional drinks, and snacks – all for passenger convenience. Water is available in bottles, and if you’re travelling with Brussels Airlines in Economy, I recommend taking a bottle or two as they don’t offer complimentary drinks (even water) on European flights.

The lounge offers several seating areas throughout: “restaurant” style seating is available near the food buffet, while more comfortable lounge chairs are available near the back of the lounge and next to the windows.

The main food buffet is located in the centre of the lounge and features an extensive range of hot and cold food items such as soups, salads, meat, cheese, fruit, vegetables, cereal, breads, etc. Non-alcoholic drinks such as water and juice are available in the buffet area, while alcoholic drinks are available at the bar which is located near the back of the lounge.

The meeting room, nap boxes, business centre, showers, and restrooms are located in the back of the lounge, behind the bar. High-quality coffee machines are available throughout the lounge, which prepare delicious cappuccinos and other types of coffee. A large selection of premium teas with various types of sugar are available next to the coffee.

The business centre consists of a quiet place to work – several PCs with high-speed internet are available for use. Additionally, desks are available for those wishing to work on their own laptops. Skype “boxes” are available for private conversations.

THE LOFT by Brussels Airlines is an impressive lounge at Brussels Airport. The lounge mainly serves Star Alliance Schengen flights, however additional airlines’ premium passengers are also able to access the lounge. More information about lounge access is available on Brussels Airlines’ website.

All in all, I was pleasantly impressed by the lounge. Brussels Airlines has partnered with some of the world’s leading companies to create a unique and innovative lounge experience for the premium travellers. My only minor issue with the lounge is that it does tend to get quite crowded during peak times.. however the vast amount of seating areas somewhat help with this issue.

THE LOFT is a different type of airline lounge – the warm and kind faces of Brussels Airlines will ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible. Enjoy European food at the lounge’s main buffet, and premium drinks at the bar. Be delighted with your stay and relax or work at your leisure. The gorgeous and stylish shower bathrooms enable a premium lounge experience and when coupled with the nap boxes, there could hardly be a better way to travel throughout Europe.

Brussels Airlines has truly created something incredible in my eyes and in the eyes of many premium travellers. THE LOFT continues to provide a unique Business Class experience on the ground, with First Class amenities throughout the lounge.

  1. Thank you for such a well written review. Now wish I was flying out of BRU for my fall trip instead of into it.

  2. Are business class tickets on Brussels Airlines purchased with airline miles allowed access to the business class lounge?
