The Aloft Brussels Schuman is located in the heart of the EU district in Brussels. The hotel is about a thirty minute walk from the centre of Brussels, conveniently located next to the Schuman railway station. I took the train from Brussels Airport to the railway station next to the hotel and paid 8 Euro for the one-way fare. The train took about twenty-five minutes, with frequent stops between the airport and the hotel.
Since I was planning this trip last minute, I didn’t really have much choice when it came to hotels, however I hadn’t yet stayed at an Aloft before and wanted to. The rate was about 60 Euro per night, which isn’t bad at all. On some days, the hotel can go as high as 300 Euro (in that case booking with SPG Cash & Points would be the best option: 3.500 points + $55 USD), this is due to the fact that it is located in the heart of the EU district.
I was quickly helped by a friendly agent at the front desk, who informed me the hotel was quite full and therefore no room upgrade would be available. This was true, since I had booked last minute, too, and the only choice was a double room. She was very friendly and mentioned my room would be on highest, 9th, floor. She also gave me a voucher for a free hot drink at the Aloft Re:fuel food and drink area in the lobby.
I really like Aloft concept – they have a nice food/drink shop in the lobby, W Xyz bar, and the hotels look to be super modern. On top of that, the staff are super friendly (though I find that is with most Starwood hotels).
My double room was very modern and clean. The room size was just right, with the bathroom being located directly behind the beds, next to the entrance.
Each room includes a large desk, phone, flat-screen TV, iPod radio/speakers, a tea kettle, complimentary water, laptop safe, and the standard amenities in the bathroom.
My view from the room was another building, so nothing fancy. However, given that I was here for just one night, I didn’t stay much in the hotel as I wanted to explore as much of Brussels as I could.
The bathroom was very modern and clean. Complimentary Bliss® Spa Bath amenities, like body lotion, were included. Shampoo and body wash were located directly in the shower. A hair dryer was located next to the sink, along with tissues and hand towels.
The water pressure was excellent, and the shampoo and body wash were substantial.
A makeshift wardrobe, partitioned by a curtain, was located in the bathroom next to the catalogues, safe, and tea kettle. Complimentary SPG water was included alongside of the tea. The tea was standard english breakfast.
All in all, my room was wonderful for one night. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the room and the friendliness of the staff. I enjoyed my free, hot beverage in the lobby during the evening. Additional features of this Aloft include Live at Aloft, a fitness centre, and a communal lounge.
The other SPG hotels are closer to the centre of Brussels, so I would probably stay there next time I’m in Brussels, but this Aloft was very comfortable and cosy. Overall, it was a night well spent.
