Brussels and Barcelona – Introduction

I was in Brussels for just one night before flying to Barcelona the next day. I arrived in the afternoon and made it to my hotel shortly after that, and eventually made it to the centre of the city by about 16:30. Thankfully it is summer, and therefore I could stay and see more of the city due to the longer day.

I wanted to see as much of Brussels as possible in the short amount of time that I had. In the end, I decided I would simply walk around and visit the main points of interest:

  • Grand Place
  • Manneken Pis
  • Mini-Europe
  • Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula
  • Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium
  • Cinquantenaire
  • Brussels Town Hall
  • Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History
  • Belgian Comic Strip Center
  • Palais de Justice
  • Place Royale

I spent the whole afternoon, until about 21:30, walking around and exploring. Even from the short amount of time I had, I could tell that Brussels is beautiful and I will definitely return at some point and explore more. Besides next to the Grand Place, there were virtually no people anywhere on the streets. It felt a bit eerie to be walking around alone through the major sights in Brussels..

From the one night I had, I really enjoyed everything I was able to explore. I had the chance to chat with a few others visiting the city, and we shared similar impressions. While the city isn’t as gorgeous as Paris or London, it has something special to it that makes me want to return at some point and see more.
