Review: Lufthansa Business Class A321 Frankfurt to Kraków

Flights around Europe from Poland have been getting less and less expensive, and that’s mainly due to the fact that the dollar is getting stronger and stronger and therefore the Polish currency isn’t as powerful as it was a few years ago. That to me means it is time to travel around Europe at low prices on real airlines and not low cost carriers (which I hate). It is also an opportunity to earn more miles to re-qualify for Star Alliance Gold.

Spain tends to be usually expensive from Poland and flights on normal airlines start at around $270 USD, but are usually much more expensive in the $360+ area. The rest of Europe can be booked for $120+, which is a real deal in my opinion. And the flights are with Austrian, Lufthansa, LOT, SWISS, etc. so earning miles isn’t a problem.

I’ve always wanted to visit Barcelona and I can’t believe I hadn’t yet been there as the city is just so captivating and gorgeous. I’ve been to Spain before – to Mallorca a few times, but I really wanted to visit Barcelona for some time. When I checked prices, I found Kraków to Barcelona with either Lufthansa or LOT at around $320.. which is ok, but not a great deal.

I searched other European destinations and it turns out Brussels is really cheap from Kraków at just $39 USD one-way on some dates with Brussels Airlines. So I decided to mix the itinerary a bit and turn it into a multi-city.. and by doing so, I saved ~$20.. not bad! So for ~$300 USD, I would be able to visit Brussels and Barcelona… awesome! I would also earn around ~2k miles with Miles & More.

The flights were with Brussels Airlines and Lufthansa. I upgraded the Lufthansa flights to Business Class with my Senator eVouchers, as I have too many and they were going to expire. The itinerary was as follows:

27 June 2016: Brussels Airlines 2548 Kraków (KRK) – Brussels (BRU), 13:25 – 15:20, SN Economy
28 June 2016: Brussels Airlines 3703 Brussels (BRU) – Barcelona (BCN), 13:15 – 15:10, SN Economy
30 June 2016: Lufthansa 1125 Barcelona (BCN) – Frankfurt (FRA), 10:30 – 12:40, LH Business
30 June 2016: Lufthansa 1368 Frankfurt (FRA) – Kraków (KRK), 16:10 – 17:40, LH Business

I wanted to try Brussels Airlines Intra-European Business Class and wanted to bid for an upgrade, however the minimum bid was 270 Euro… that’s ridiculous for such a short flight and something I would never do. In the end, I found out that Brussels Airlines charges for water in Economy Class.

As far as hotels go, I booked the Aloft Brussels Schuman in Brussels and booked a non-chain hotel in Barcelona through Miles & More hotels and I earned ~2.5k miles for the two-night stay in Barcelona.

Both Brussels and Barcelona are gorgeous, and typical European cities with amazing architecture, captivating scenery, and wonderful people. I obviously enjoyed Barcelona much more as it has so much history, beauty, and culture. I spent some time relaxing by the beach and touring the major points of interest, and found the city to be ideal for everyone wanting to absorb Spanish culture.

All in all, it was a great, quick trip to explore two of Europe’s important cities.
