Every few months I make a post summarising which current credit cards I have and what I’m planning on doing with them in the near future. I also shared what my credit card strategy is, and I was also debating about keeping both Starwood and Club Carlson credit cards (the personal and business version of each).
Despite the changes in loyalty programmes in 2015, I still think it was an awesome year and I think the best of my life so far. I predict that 2016 will be awesome too and hopefully as great as 2015 was. My credit card strategy remains more or less the same for this year and I’ve cancelled and added a few new cards to my collection. Here is the current list:
Airline Credit Cards:
- Miles & More® World Elite MasterCard®
- Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® MasterCard®
Hotel Credit Cards:
- IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card
- The Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express
- Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card
- Club Carlson℠ Premier Rewards Visa Signature® Card
Transferable/Flexible points Credit Cards:
- Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card
- Platinum Card® from American Express
- Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express
- Amex EveryDay® Credit Card
- Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card
Notable closures include the MileagePlus Explorer card – no need to keep it since I have the Sapphire Preferred and Star Alliance Gold. I also got rid of a few other credit cards I had that were useless like a few Alaska Airlines credit cards and some older cash-back cards that weren’t listed.
The biggest change to my list is that I closed out the old Premier Miles & More MasterCard in favour of the new Miles & More® World Elite MasterCard®, which is awesome and includes many new features – so I use this one daily since Miles & More miles are the most valuable to me.
I also decided that I’m keeping both Starwood AMEX credit cards because who knows what will happen with the Starwood merger, plus my annual fees aren’t due for a while. Another notable addition includes the AMEX EveryDay Preferred Credit Card – I only got it to get 15k Membership Rewards points, no other use.
So apart from a few changes, my current credit cards haven’t changed much. The main reason I keep most of them is either because I use them on a daily basis or either because they have great annual benefits that justify the annual fee.
