First Class on the SWISS Airbus A330 is incredible, stylish, and gorgeous. SWISS currently operates two long-haul aircraft, the A330 and A340; however, they will soon take delivery of their new flagship, the B777.
The new SWISS First Class is only featured on their A330 (and will be on their B777), however not on their old A340s which will soon be phased out with the introduction of their B777.
SWISS is widely considered the premium carrier from the Lufthansa Group (Austrian, Lufthansa, Germanwings, etc). However, while their First Class is amazing, their First Class ground services are lacking. They are also very restrictive in terms of access to their First Class Lounge – you can only access it if you’re ticketed on a pure LX flight number (not a codeshare). I really don’t understand their logic behind this – even Lufthansa allows access to their First Class Terminal and First Class Lounges if you are booked on a codeshare, but really flying Lufthansa in First Class.
Furthermore, SWISS First Class is extremely hard to book using miles because SWISS First Class flight awards are only available to Miles & More Senator and HON Circle Members.
That being said, if you are a Miles & More Senator or HON Circle Member… SWISS First is actually very easy to book using miles. SWISS will generally release 1-4 award seats per flight… something that Lufthansa doesn’t even do! As a Miles & More elite, it is easier to book SWISS First Class than Lufthansa First Class.
While I haven’t yet flown SWISS First (I will in the next week or so), from the looks of it, Lufthansa First Class is better than SWISS First – perhaps the logic behind more restrictions on Lufthansa First awards (which are available to partner airlines ~14 days before departure).
However that still doesn’t explain why SWISS doesn’t let partner airlines (or even Miles & More FTL members) book their First Class using miles… if the overall experience isn’t as great as Lufthansa.
While I will have a full trip report soon, I just wanted to share my initial thoughts after reading several SWISS First trip reports. If you’ve flown SWISS First, how was your experience?
