I’m headed to London for ~4 days in a couple of months and I figured it would be the best time to go over my hotel options. I quickly booked two hotels through Club Carlson a couple of months ago and since I can cancel those bookings for free, I thought I would research more hotels in London and find one where I actually want to stay at and get the best value for my points.
Well, things have become a little more complicated now… I decided to also get 80k IHG points recently (through the credit card), and now I have those to use as well. Since I value Club Carlson points higher than IHG (mainly since Club Carlson has a ton of hotels in Europe), I figured the best thing to do would be to book something with IHG first and then Club Carlson.
After a quick search I discovered that IHG doesn’t have nice hotels in London except the Intercontinental which requires 50k points per night… and that doesn’t get me anywhere, the reason being is that I am staying four nights so I will either book through Club Carlson to get two nights free, or book two nights through IHG to get the best value. So here comes the frustration: do I somehow acquire the additional 20k points needed to redeem for two nights at the Intercontinental? It’s a nice luxurious hotel but I don’t know if the hassle of somehow cheaply acquiring an additional 20k points is worth it.
Back to Club Carlson… they have over 20 hotels in London and researching all of them is overwhelming, I just can’t decide which one (or two) to stay at… HELP! Please, if anyone has experience and knows which CC hotels in London are worth staying at, PLEASE let me know. All of the hotels show availability on my dates.
I’ve narrowed it down to five that I could potentially stay at that I like:
- Plaza on the River
- Park Plaza Westminster Bridge
- Park Plaza County Hall
- Park Plaza Riverbank
- The May Fair
As you can see, I really want a nice river-view hotel which overlooks River Thames and some of London’s most iconic buildings, therefore I figured all of those Park Plazas would be perfect. I know that I would probably need to book the ‘Premium Award’ to get a nice room that overlooks the river, and I’m fine with that. I’m also Gold Elite with Club Carlson so hopefully that will get me nice upgrades.
As far as The May Fair, it looks like a nice hotel and I was thinking that I would spend two nights at a ‘river-view’ hotel and then the other two nights somewhere else in London… so it necessarily doesn’t have to be just those options.
Again, if anyone has experience/suggestions about which Club Carlson or IHG hotels to book in London, please comment below or email me. Thanks!
