My favourite airport in the world is this one… Kraków Airport. It is located much closer to my house in Poland and therefore if I need to fly somewhere, I usually take the Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt and connect onwards. The airport has a nice design and is currently being renovated since it has been some time since it was built.
There was no line for premium check-in and my bags were tagged all the way to Stockholm. Security took around ten minutes because there was no premium lane and when I inquired if there was one I received a strange look from an agent.
There are two Business Lounges in Kraków Airport – a Schengen one and a non-Schengen one. As I was flying to Frankfurt, I was able to enjoy the comfort of the Schengen lounge. There are several ways you can gain access to this lounge: Star Alliance Gold, SkyTeam Elite Plus, oneworld Sapphire or Emerald, Business Class, Priority Pass, Airport Angel, Diner’s Club or if you don’t have any of those cards, you can pay 100 PLN (~33 USD) for access.
The lounge is fairly small, but since people are rarely there, it doesn’t matter how big it is. I was actually surprised that the business centre had iMacs! Macs are generally not known of in Poland, so I was pleasantly surprised they went the extra mile to get computers that actually work.
The seats are either green or orange and the lounge has a modern design. It has been opened for quite some time, but is very clean and everything remains in good shape.
There were tons of drinks, including many alcoholic beverages, juices, spirits and more.
There were light snacks, nothing fancy, but since this airport is small and there aren’t that many business travellers, it works out. I think this may be my favourite non-airline contract lounge. The staff are super friendly and are willing to assist with anything they can. The lounge is very clean and has a good variety of drinks and snacks, I would say even if you do not have any access cards, I would certainly pay for access given you are able to spend time in a quiet, and pleasant environment.
