United Airlines Business Class A319 Mexico City to San Francisco

United Airlines 718
Mexico City (MEX) – San Francisco (SFO)
Airbus A319
10 June 2013

My. Best. United. Flight. Ever.

While in the lounge I was browsing the United app and checking my flight status and I noticed there was a note ‘Added to the United Business Upgrade List’, I figured this wasn’t possible so I checked the upgrade list on my iPhone and surely enough I was the SECOND on the upgrade list! Of course one person had only booked Business Class and there were only 2 people on the upgrade list.

I still don’t know how it happened – the agent must have added me after check-in? or perhaps did I have the highest status and they needed my economy seat? I don’t know, all I know is that I love surprise upgrades! At first there were only 3 people in Business class, then later someone was upgraded mid-flight.

By the time I arrived at the gate, boarding was already half over and I still needed to get a new boarding pass since my seat changed. I was among the last people on the plane and quickly settled into my comfortable seat, 2A. Since there was only four people, we each had two seats to ourselves.

The legroom was awesome, practically unlimited for me. I put my laptop bag underneath the seat next to me and I was able to enjoy tons of legroom under the seat in front of me.

It was somewhat a cloudy day in Mexico City… I guess the city was sad like me, that I was leaving 🙂

The FA working Business Class was super nice and friendly and within minutes of seeing me, offered me something to drink.

We took off on time and began climbing out of Mexico City. Just take a look for yourself, the city is massive.

We slowly levelled off and it was a beautiful day in the sky.

Once we reached 11 thousand metres, the FA asked all four of us if we wanted to have lunch and in the meantime handed out drinks and warm nuts.

The lunch consisted of asparagus soup and a chicken salad. Both were freshly prepared and tasted quite well.

After the meal, I mostly spent the rest of the flight listening to music and looking out the window. It’s a beautiful world, isn’t it?

Thirty minutes after everyone finished the lunch, the FA passed out warm cookies.

I decided to have tea with lemon and sugar to go along with my cookie. I was quite thirsty for some reason and ended up drinking tons of tea.

United’s A319 has just eight seats in Business Class spread across two rows, which makes this a very small cabin.

As we got closer to Baja California, the view outside was just gorgeous.

We began descending just as we passed the Mexico-US border and were on the ground ahead of schedule. Customs was a breeze, even though I don’t have global entry. By far one of the best flights ever. Not only because of the surprise upgrade, but because the service onboard was fantastic. The FA genuinely loved her job and did anything she could to make our stay onboard more pleasant. The food was fresh and tasted quite good, I wish more United flights had this kind of meals!

  1. Is United p.s. Service the best domestic business class flight? I would
have not believed it before but yes I loved my recent flight.
